Shirley Pettijohn is 88 years young and has been preparing to run in the Giralda Farms 5k, a race for charity and awards in Madison, New Jersey.
Shirley is a veteran runner and adventurer; she has ran in 14 marathons over the last 40 years and she’s a member of the Morris County striders, a local running club with whom she will be tackling the Giralda Farms 5k. She also trekked on Mount Kilimanjaro for her 70th birthday!
ACNJ has been a big part of Shirley’s preparation and training. Acupuncture has kept her in the running by helping release the muscle and joint tension that builds up during her training runs and walks. With a combination of acupuncture and electric stimulation on sore muscles around her legs and hips we made sure that she could train and run without injury.
The New York Marathon is another recent race that we’ve helped patients prepare for. One such patient, a first time marathoner, came in just a month before the race with a hip injury and thigh strain. Acupuncture, cupping and e-stim helped her get back on track with her training. She ended up finishing her first ever marathon with an impressive rate of 10 minutes per mile!
Congratulations to Shirley and our other runners. We’re inspired by your strength, hard work and dedication!
